The benefits of using a lithium race car battery

Varley have been the premium race car battery choice for professional and club motorsport disciplines for over 60 years, during this time they have had to adapt to the changing demands from racers and have always invested in research to stay at the cutting edge of battery technology.

Introducing the Varley Red Top 900 and 320, lightweight racing batteries.

The latest addition to the Varley Red Top racing battery range are the Red Top 900 and Red Top 320, two brand new lightweight 12v lithium race batteries benefiting from the latest in battery technology.

The benefits of using a lithium race car battery

Lightweight: Weight reduction in motorsport is incredibly important but can become expensive as you replace heavy components with lightweight materials. Switching to a lightweight lithium race battery is a quick and cost effective way of reducing weight by a significant margin. The Red Top 900 weighs just 2.5kg and can be used in the same applications as a Red Top 40, this switch saves you over 12.5kg in one hit. A similar weight saving in other areas of the car can be substantially more expensive to find. The saving in weight can make all the difference in the search for those extra tenths around the track.

Compact size: The Varley Red Top 320 and Varley Red Top 900 have a small footprint making them easy to mount in smaller spaces. The ability to have such a small size is down to the high power density of the battery with more usable capacity compared with equivalent lead acid batteries.

Industry leading safety: The Varley Red Top 12v lithium race car batteries are built using the latest LiFePO4 technology which is widely regarded to be the safest available option. These batteries are approved for use by the MSA and exceed all safety standards for motorsport use.

Long term reliability: Varley have built a reputation on reliability and this extends to their new range of lithium batteries, these additions benefiting from new technology that increases long term reliability. The batteries have a superior resistance to shock and vibration which reduces the chances of any physical damage to the battery cells even in the most extreme conditions. Having trust in your starter battery to perform when you turn the key is essential for motorsport, LiFePO4 lithium batteries have an extremely low self discharge rate making these ultra reliable even when left to sit for a period of time. These batteries require minimal maintenance, their deeper level of discharge allows you to get the most out of the battery without the worry of causing it long term issues associated with over discharging a lead acid equivalent. To quickly check the voltage of the battery there is also a very useful voltage test button with LED display.

Specialist lithium battery chargers are recommended to maintain the condition of your battery, Nimbus Motorsport offer a bundle including the battery and charger as a kit.
